summer routine #1: monday night bowling

everyone has a distinct way of bowling. david has this calculated, sinew-taut bomb motion, lynn has the knack of making the bowling ball bounce every single time she throws it, jenn pirouettes, chris, frustrated by spinning, has hesitant, quiet mannerisms.

me, i tend to fall over each time i bowl.

the couple on the lane next to us had their own kmart bowling shoes, let alone balls. strike strike strike and the man would stare at us whistling or hooting whenever one of us knocked down two pins. bowling is fun because of reactions. after they left, a bunch of gruff rockabilly punkers took their place. very threatening to our geekish wackiness. all of us felt like we were going to get beaten up, unexplicably. (maybe it was because the gruff group kept snapping at each other. if they're to mean to themselves, how will they take us existing right alongside their cranky clique?)

"i'm clearin' out if there's gonna be a rumble" said david.

of course, no such thing came about, but i did justifiably think we'd get yelled at for bringing outside drinks to the alley, but due to our smooth nonchalance, and our ability to not make eye contact with various alley employees, nothing of the sort happened. when we were leaving, we witnessed a teenage girl in a bebe shirt and a thirty year old hawaiian shirted man dancing together on this gigantic electronic pad, located directly in front of a screen telling them just where to step, and when. a crowd gathered, transfixed. i felt like i was caught somewhere between that scene with the giant floor piano in big and a bad 90's teen love flick, a la can't hardly wait or the like.

i haven't even seen can't hardly wait. but you know what i mean.

we still don't have a name. we need a name. and we need more people to come. monday nights, 8:30 to 10:30, albany bowl on san pablo in albany, $1.50 a game. we usually play two games. i mean, we will usually be playing two games.

how quirky.
