novembre ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- so soothing grandma viv is 84 today. the quilt and how i helped in such a seven year old girl way, sewing together squares of fabric by hand even though grandma vivian was doing it on the machine. i recognized swatches from pants she'd made for me in first grade; several of the same cut in different fabrics. i was the only kid in my class who wore cotton or seersucker slacks. after the quilt was finished we lined it and backed it in a bright red, and i got to yarn tie the quilt together. tomorrow i'm driving to southern california and will try to soothe my 82 year old grandma. she's pissed because, after three failed attempts, she cannot renew her license. saturday, i hung out with grandma and tried to crochet. i keep getting my strand twisted though, and it looks like i'll never make muffie those mittens i promised. but i'm still hopeful. i love her stories, so i have assumed the role of her confidant. today she told me about grandpa w's brother j killing himself by driving into a train. 5:57 pm - 02.13.04 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
