tarot reading

we drove to the edge of the bay and ducked under the flimsy railing to perch at the top of the cliff, watching a dozen pelicans glide easy as kites over our heads.

they swirled in the draft like paper, their outstretched wings barely moving.

the sun hit the pacific where it met the bite of the bay, twinkling the jade water.

it looked so pretty, i dug my feet into aloe and answered my own questions. it is so much easier to think about things when pressure is removed. currents can be clearly identified.

nature does not worry about the future; it is not preoccupied with the past. (both are in my nature and i always feel a little like an outsider in the beautiful, quiet places.)

a barge moved out under the golden gate into the ocean, we monitored its steady progress. such a huge bulky thing can move stealthily through seawater, much faster than i thought. the barge met with fog rolling in, fog coming to shush the lights of the city. we left, the lighthouse and empty naval barracks at our backs, salt and pine and dust and sand pushing my little honda down thin roads through mohair hills.

back to all the people.
