novembre ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hazelnut When you've had too much coffee you try and write short stories about dust, and you end up sounding like an idiot. Antiques are almost always sold in claustrophobic stores, in buildings so long and narrow youd think the back wall was a mile away. There are very few windows, or maybe theyre covered in newspaper to prevent sunlight from fading the already fading colors. I like to walk down the pathways and get my bearings before searching through individual stands; I think of cubicles and then think of business. I look around and picture an office instead of stall after stall of stained glass and rotting afgan throws. Rather, I picture desks wedged in-between cases filled with old baseball cards and iron elephant figurines, a businessman reaching for that old rotary dial with brass detailing to call Wall Street and check up on his stock portfolio. And then you get stuck again. You rub your wrists and wonder if you'll ever write anything interesting. You decide to pay bills and file your FAFSA online. You comb the cat and sit outside with the neighbors and drink hazelnut coffee You're just out of practice. It's okay. At least your bills from the past few months have finally been paid. 11:44 pm - 04.03.04 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
