novembre ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- celebrism the weirdest dream in the past week: a synopsis location: new york i was in the studio audience during dave letterman's set while he made fun of micheal jordon and i got so fed up that i went next door to the gym where micheal jordon just happened to be working out and made him come over and assuage himself. at the end of the taping i ended up in the lobby of a gigantic 1960s restaurant, sipping a coctail in a dark booth kitty-corner to one filled with mary steinbergen (you know, she was in a movie with steve martin and also starred in powder, the poor woman) and that fat guy with the glasses who plays the neighbor on malcolm in the middle on one side; and two interviewers on the other, from the new yorker and art world. they were discussing these giant altered books that the two actors had just completed, mainly mary steinbergen. (apparently the malcolm in the middle guy had a bit part in this, also) mary amassed several garbage bags' worth of trinkets stolen from various bulletin boards in 1945, and has since been sticking them into the gigantic book that she and the bit-part-guy have been altering. the interviewers asked questions like why are there no images of children in this most recent edition? while mary shows them pages with plastic barbies dressed up like soldiers (which looked vaguely erotic for some reason), collectively holding up an american flag made out of push pins. i don't know, i guess i'm past that, she says. 8:26 pm - 05.17.02 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
