novembre ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- writing impetus heather is excited because we got a desk. i found it, neglected, dinged and whining in the back of david's apartment's carport. (having a desk versus sitting cross-legged on the floor is an obvious advantage. the blood flows more evenly and your knees stop throbbing enough so you may think of tidbits for short stories.) first we took the drawers and then the shell, and now the surface is covered by my monstrous computer screen. that's what happens when you buy a pieced-together computer from a dying dot-com (aptly named WHOOSH!); the monitor is huge, and heavy. perhaps it is time i named my computer. it's been with me since june, sleeping in my brother's ex-roommate's trunk, in need of re-organising internally. up and running in my apartment(s) since august. there is one thumb-sized sticker in the upper right corner of hollow cherries that for some reason i find absolutely charming. rimming the screen are thumbnail-sized stickers: cats in innertubes, dogs with sunglasses and hampsters with mugs of what looks like beer. these are dispersed between a cutout from a WEEKLY WORLD NEWS issue about poodle-sized locusts swarming in russia, a smog sticker, a black and white 1940s snapshot of someone's kitten that elissa sent me, izone pictures of bubbles sleeping on top of david, kirsten and me in giant 1980s mom sunglasses, neoprints (including one of muffie from her latest visit to san francisco, me with great hair in k-mart and heather kissing a pig) and photobooth pictures. one, colour, heather holding her head. dark lipstick, mouth slightly parted. the other, two of lisa and me from the black and white booth at the ventura county fair, two or three years ago. lisa looks tanned and beautiful. i am making goofy faces and pointing off to the right with both hands. 12:29 am - 04.26.02 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
