novembre ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- the birds of lake merritt and tonight i noticed that the ducks swim in pairs, mostly a mallard and his mate, their butts bobbing out of water while they scan the shore for food. i love the way geese talk to each other. it reminds me of my grandmother on the telephone. but the most resoundingly beautiful bird is the egret, the tips of its feathers as thin and long as soft hair that has been brushed seventy dutiful strokes. 10:59 pm - 03.20.02 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
