novembre ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- fat camp reprise Fat Camp, the summer after seventh grade. The campers were herded together into one ubiquitous fat mass. The thinnest girls in the camp were the most popular. Amber. Amber the tall tall basketball player weighed 170 pounds. She doesn't look heavy; she looks like a woman. The rest of us look squished and puckered. Munchkin, a girl a couple of years younger than me. During free time we'd sit on her bed and play cards and cuss. There was another girl down the hall addicted to gum. She came late to camp so she was an instant curiosity. We watched her unpack; one suitcase filled with outlawed over sugared bubble yum, bubbalicious, every flavor. She guarded the suitcase closely. Mornings consisted of walking around the track for an hour followed by all the oatmeal we could eat followed by walking around the track for an hour. Munchkin and me would cuss and the gum girl would chew. And then swimming, aerobics, jogging, weight training, jogging, jumping rope, walking, aerobics. A woman taught us how to bake low fat chocolate chip cookies. I was one of the proud few chosen to help her mix the batter, and after finding out I could only eat some of the batter if I gave up my one cookie after the batch was baked, I didn't know what to do. One of our counselors had an ass the size of Cleveland. My boyfriend doesn�t care if I lose weight he just doesn�t want me to lose any on my butt.
