novembre ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- correspondence with the guy sitting next to me dear john lennon, it must have been hard for you to deal with the christian backlash when you said "we're bigger than jesus" in 66. i know what you meant, though. at that time, the beatles WERE bigger than jesus. speaking fame-wise, girls-screaming-testifying-crying-at-your-concerts-wise, moptop-inspiring-wise. you must have been frustrated at how misinterpreted your words were. i don't think i could deal with that aspect of fame; people coming to wrong conclusions about what you'd said or done. i hate having myself misrepresented. but i kindof like it when my art is, or second guessed or abstracted by other peoples' thoughts. is that an oxymoron? is that how you felt when you released sgt. pepper's lonely hearts club and everyone had just been calling the beatles "washed up" and "out with the twist?" or maybe you didn't care at all because you weren't sensitive and you did so many drugs. and i still think you were cute and amazing even though one night in a san franciscan elevator you drunkenly grabbed my mom's boob. i think that was 73. love, elka 10:06 pm - 11.18.2000 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
